We are back on Buchanan Street with our Peace advocacy stall. Come and visit us.

When and where: Every Saturday on Buchanan Street.

July 2022 will mark seven years since we decided to set up our weekly stall on Buchanan Street. Every week, we talk to members of the public about the history and issues relating to the long-standing conflict between the Israelis and Palestinians. As an organisation, we support both people as it will never be possible to have peace for only one side. We also provide information in the form of leaflets and booklets.

In 2015, when the GFI committee first talked about having a weekly street stall, a few of us were quite concerned, as we had heard that Glasgow was a very pro-Palestinian city and we expected that we would have trouble from the loud and aggressive Israel haters with their huge Palestinian flags. But after the first week, when they confronted us and tried to intimidate and harass us, we very quickly became one of the regulars on Buchanan Street and before long, every single week, we were the ones who had many visitors to our stall whilst  they stood, alone and ignored by all.

We have Israeli flag and Palestinian flag bunting around our table and this and our message of pro-Israel, pro-Palestinian, pro-Peace is what attracts the greatest number of people that want to stop and talk to us. So many have remarked on this positive message and how different we are from other stalls who simply scream abuse and hatred for Israel.

Many of the individuals and families that our volunteers speak with are tourists to Glasgow and we also meet young students from all over the world who come here to study. Some of our most interesting conversations are with people from the Middle East, the majority of whom are in favour of our message of peace and are extremely supportive, in particular, Iranians who all tell us that people in Iran do not hate Israel and by living in the UK, they are able to say this openly.

The GFI stall is on Buchanan Street from 11am – 3pm every Saturday and afterwards, we put a post on the Facebook page, telling everyone about the conversations we have had and the interesting people we had met that day.

We would like to encourage everyone to come and see us on Buchanan Street. Those who do, have an amazing time and many decide to join our great group of volunteers who every week advocate for peace.
